R. Taylor guitars (roughly 2005–2011) were a premium, small-shop brand created by Bob Taylor and master luthier Tim Luranc to produce high-end, luthier-crafted instruments apart from the Taylor production line. Known for exceptional craftsmanship, these guitars were built in limited numbers (a few hundred per year), often featuring unique, high-grade tonewoods and specialized bracing for a richer, more responsive tone than standard Taylors.
R. Taylor guitars are considered collector-grade, delivering a more "played-in" sound immediately, distinct from the signature modern, crisp sound of standard Taylor guitars.
This is an R Taylor Style 2 Grand Concert sized guitar built in 2008. The Style 2 is a short scale (24-7/8"), 14-fret model with a 15" wide lower bout and a depth of 4-3/16". This guitar has a Lutz Spruce top, highly figured AA Koa back and sides, and for the fingerstyle fans out there, a 1 7/8' nut width. The guitar has a very lively tone without being bright or thin sounding and with the shorter scale length and wider nut, it is a joy to play. Its Grand Concert size gives it an excellent output for flat picking. Cosmetic touches on this guitar include a multi-color abalone rosette, abalone-dotted bridge pins, and ebony binding and backstrap.
This gorgeous instrument is in near mint condition, with virtually no flaws of any significance. It comes in its original Ameritage case.
