SONATE FOR TRUMPET AND PIANO - HINDEMITH

For a composer who was always very hard on himself, Paul Hindemith’s Trumpet Sonata was a motivational and inspiring accomplishment for the composer after a difficult year of composing. Hindemith wrote to a friend in 1939 that the Sonata “is maybe the best thing I have succeeded in doing in recent times, and that is quite a good sign, since I do not regard any of my newest productions as of little value.”

Well, you and I know that his Sonata has become one of the most important pieces written for the trumpet, and takes its place among the Haydn and Hummel concertos as one of the most beloved and popular compositions in trumpet repertoire.
