Learning to play the clarinet should be enjoyable. Consequently, apart from a few exercises necessary to learn the bare rudiments and to master particular fingerings, the material in this first book is melodic and interesting as well as thorough.
We begin by playing legato so that we can learn how to start and finish the tone well, develop good blowing habits, and learn the various tonguing movements easily. Learning to play staccato will then be a pleasing experience.
